Behaviour & Regulation Review

The Review brings together relevant observation, professional discussion and contextual information to understand what is happening in practice. It looks at what is helping, where learning access or provision could be stronger, and what needs attention next.

Every Review is shaped around the agreed focus rather than a standard checklist.

• understand a recurring pattern across a class, phase, routine or area of provision
• explore why pupils are managing differently across contexts
• review or strengthen a defined aspect of provision or practice
• gain an experienced external perspective on an area of practice that is developing or already established

A Review might begin with a concern or development question such as:

“We are repeatedly losing learning time after lunch in Year 4. We want to understand what is contributing and what needs to change.”

“Pupils manage well in some classrooms or routines but struggle significantly in others. We want to understand what may be contributing to the difference.”

“We want to establish or strengthen a low-arousal, nurture or regulation provision so that its purpose, environment and adult practice work coherently.”

“We want an external professional perspective on how provision for autistic or other neurodivergent learners is working across a particular phase and what should be strengthened next.”

You bring the concern, question or development priority. Together, we clarify what the Review needs to help you understand or strengthen.

I’ll recommend the scope that best fits the enquiry. Both scopes remain centred on one agreed focus.

Half-day scope: £650

For a clearly defined concern or development priority where the enquiry can be addressed through a focused range of relevant observation, consultation and contextual information.

Full-day scope: £1,000

For a clearly defined concern or development priority where the enquiry requires a broader range of contexts, perspectives, routines or provision to be considered.

A half-day Review is not confined to one classroom. Neither scope is intended as a whole-school review; the enquiry remains focused on the agreed area.

The fee covers the full Review process, including preparation, on-site work, analysis and written output. Travel expenses are agreed separately where applicable.

The balance of observation, consultation and contextual information is shaped by the agreed focus. Depending on the enquiry, this may include:

• observation across relevant lessons, routines, transitions or provision
• discussion with staff and leaders who know the context well
• consideration of the environment, adult practice and existing provision
• review of selected information that helps make sense of the agreed concern or development priority

Observation is often important, but it is not the Review in itself. In some enquiries, reflective professional dialogue with staff and leaders is equally valuable, particularly where comparing perspectives and understanding differences across contexts helps make the picture clearer.

The Review includes professional scoping and preparation around the agreed focus, the on-site Review itself, and a closing professional debrief to bring together the most significant findings and immediate priorities.

You will also receive Behaviour & Regulation Review: Findings & Priorities, normally within 10 working days of the visit.

This written synthesis brings together the significant patterns, professional interpretation and priorities arising from the Review. It is designed to capture what matters, rather than reproduce every observation or conversation.

The output is proportionate by design, giving leaders a clear basis for decision-making without creating unnecessary paperwork for the school.

The Review is not a scored behaviour or SEND audit, an inspection or compliance exercise, or a series of individual pupil assessments.

Where the primary concern centres on one pupil, the Pupil Behaviour & Regulation Assessment may be the more appropriate service.

Further implementation, coaching or follow-up support can be commissioned separately where useful.
